Nationals Devastated by Strong Winds
Strong winds devastated the Hillcrest 2007/08 Mg Skiff Australian Championships,
depriving competitors and organisers of what should have been an excellent event. All the effort and hard work put into the preparation and running of this series was little comfort for the lack of sailing.
Despite the winds, a series of 5 races was eventually completed and the results

This years Hillcrest MG Nationals
will definitely be setting some records, all competitors receiving a FREE event T-shirt and cap, amongst almost $5000.00 worth of trophies, prizes and giveaways on offer to competitors, plus subsidised social events and FREE News Years Eve Party,
complete with fireworks, this event is setting up to be one of the MG Australian Championships not to be missed, the first one to have 3 divisions attending, MG14, MGB and Sportskiff. It has been rumored the some of SE Qlds sailing stars and legends have been sailing MGs, and I can confirm, that a few of the “garaged” top boats have gone out on charter recently, an ominous sign that we may have to deal with a few class act ring-ins.
With this sought of interest being shown in sailing these high performance skiffs who would miss the Hillcrest Norfolk Island 2007/08 MG skiff Australian Titles.

2006/7 NSW State Championships
Greg Roche and Daniel Yaxley, sailing 'Final Phase', win at Lake Illawara,
narrowly beating, on a count back, Tim Harrington (with various crews) on 'Catchup'.
A 5th and a 1st in the final 2 heats, secured third place overall
to juniors Ryan Lindsay & Phoebe Thomas sailing 'Plan B', in their 1st MG14 regatta. A terrific effort.
Handicap honours went to 'Wizard of Oz', Rob and Sian Morton with a terrific improvement
in performance over past regattas. With a 1st and 3rd on scratch helping to reduce their handicap from 12 down to 0.
The event was hampered by inconsistent and somemtimes non-existent winds with the last day proving very difficult for race organisers and competitors alike. Heat 6 resulted in over half the fleet missing the 20 minute finishing rule (any boat finishing more than 20 mins after the 1st finisher qualifies as a DNF).
However, despite the weather, the event was a tremendous success due to the skills of the on shore and off shore officials and with the great facilities at the club for both the competitors and spectators.
A big thankyou to Illawarra Yacht Club and all the members who made this event such a success.

Teralba Regatta
Two MG's, ( Crikey & Filthy Faze) us (Greg and Phil :ed)with Sportskiff / MG hibrid rig, 4 NS's,
2 29ers, and 4 Tasars started in the one divison.
A light to moderate Nor easter did look promising as we headed out,
but it faded as the race went on. Filthy Faze (Bob Taig & Dylan Moore)
charged up the work to rounded well ahead. We struggled with to much
weight in the lighter stuff but got back in touch downwind.
Same old story, you've probably heard it all before.

2006-7 TT Round 1 - Gosford
The 1st of 2 rounds of the 2006/7 seasons NSW Touring Trophy kicked off at Gosford on the weekend of 11th/12th of November.
The event was hampered by extremely variable winds, especially for the 1st heat on Saturday when the wind changed constantly.
The first heat was won, on handicap (6th on scratch), by the oldest boat on the water, Phoenix (Brian & Nicholas Reeves).
On scratch the winner of both heats and overall winners of round 1 (both handicap and scratch)
was 'Water Rat' (Rowan Nosworthy, Lindsay Mason) who were not phased by the conditions.
Equally consistent with 2 second placings on scratch was 'Catchup' (Tim and Courtney Harrington),
giving Water Rat a run for their money all weekend.
See Round 1 Results for full details
The NSW Touring Trophy is primarily a handicap event, sailed over 2 weekends,
the first prior to the national championships at Christmas and the second in February.
Each round is run as an independant regatta, there is no entry fee and they are open
to any MG14 with prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd on handicap and 1st on scratch.
(Note: only members of the NSW MG14 Association are eligible for prizes)
There is also an overall series compounding the results from both rounds with 3 of
the 4 heat results to count (same deal as each round regarding prizes and eligibility)
The final round of the TT will be held in Sydney, at St George and Greenwich, over the weekend
of the 17th and 18th of February. All MG14s welcome.
