Membership has its Rewards

No Am-Ex haven’t sponsored this web site, this is a plea to those sailing MGs who haven’t yet joined the association to do so. It may be that some consider the association as being only for those who sail the Championships. The association committee however would like to serve all those who sail MGs whether they sail at club or at interclub level. We can’t do much for you or even know what you would like us to do for you if you are not members.

The MG association does organise the National and State championships as well as the Touring Trophy. For those of you not familiar with the Touring Trophy I would like to recommend it as a way of meeting other MG sailors, trying out other sailing venues, improving your sailing skills and tapping into the people who can help you with tuning, rigging and sailing problems.

The Touring Trophy is held in conjunction with the State championship series but is itself a handicap series. So you don’t have to be at the front of the fleet to be competing! You don’t even have to get to all the races since results and prizes are awarded for each of the Touring Trophy events.

Toward the end of the season a teams race day is organised at Gosford for all comers, with no need to organise a team beforehand. The race committee try to make the teams as even as possible and this is generally a light-hearted day’s sailing. Other events we would be interested in organising are sprint series and coaching days, however we need sufficient numbers to make this worthwhile.

Even if the racing outlined above doesn’t interest you there are still reasons to be an association member. We have all made an investment in our boats. This maintains its value far better if there is a vibrant and healthy association associated with the class. Members receive a newsletter quarterly so that you can hear the news, even if you can’t get to the events. If the committee isn’t doing what you would like for the association then you can only alter that by becoming a member and having a say. Oh… and it doesn’t cost that much either ($30 plus $25 boat registration, if racing)
