MG14 Association and NS14 Association Joint Meetings and Cooperation

Joint Statement by the MG14 Association of NSW Inc. and the NS14 Association of Australia, July 2007, for the information of all Members and State Associations

The MG14 Association of NSW Inc. and the NS14 Association of Australia have resolved to hold a series of joint meetings to discuss ways the Associations can cooperate for the benefit of both classes.

Representatives of both Associations were nominated as:

NS14’s: Sandra Donovan, Hugh Tait, Sean Edmiston
MG14’s: Phillip Moore, Lindsay Mason, Gary Reeves

Two meeting have been held to date, in May 2007 and July 2007 respectively. The first meeting defined the mission and goals of the meetings and of the cooperation, and some specific avenues for consideration:

Mission:

Explore and foster opportunities for cooperation between the MG14 and NS14 classes for mutual benefit.

Goals:
  1. Knowledge of each other’s activities through regular communication.
  2. Seek opportunities to cooperate for mutual benefit.
  3. Avoid any activities detrimental to the other class.
  4. Maintain the separate class identities.

Specific Avenues for Consideration:
  1. Harmonisation of class measurement rules to allow easy moves between classes and participation in both.
  2. Joint regattas.
  3. Joint promotions (e.g. Boat Show).
  4. Joint communications with boat builders, spar suppliers, sailmakers, etc.
  5. Website links to each other’s website.
  6. Add each other to mailing and/or email lists for bulletins, program updates, items of interest, etc

The second meeting discussed options for joint regattas during the 2007-08 season, and examined the similarities and differences between the respective class measurements rules, with a particular emphasis on identifying barriers to joint registration, participation in each other’s events, and movement between the classes.

Further information will be posted periodically on both websites and in other Association and class communications.

The next joint meeting will be held on 4th August 2007.
